Electro-optic lithium niobate metasurfaces

Many applications of metasurfaces require an ability to dynamically change their properties in the time domain. Electrical tuning techniques are particular interest, since they pave a way on-chip integration with optoelectronic devices. In this work, we propose and experimentally demonstrate electro-optic lithium niobate (EO-LN) metasurface that shows dynamic modulations phase retardation transmitted light. Quasi-bound states continuum (QBIC) observed from metasurface. By applying external electric voltages, refractive index (LN) is changed by Pockels EO nonlinearity, leading efficient light around QBIC wavelength. The EO-LN developed study opens up new routes for potential field displaying, pulse shaping, spatial modulating.
